At Three Creek Ranches, we are dedicated to the art of responsible breeding.
Our focus is on producing healthy and well-tempered cattle that meet the highest standards of breed excellence.
Established in 2016, we are a family owned and operated ranch in Soper, Oklahoma,
and our cattle are for sale by private treaty.
In 2016, Chris and Heather Smith purchased land in Soper, Oklahoma as a weekend retreat from the fast-paced growth and congestion of the Dallas suburbs. After more than 20 years in corporate finance, Chris was ready for a change of pace, while Heather had devoted two decades to raising their two children and investing countless volunteer hours into their sports teams, school programs, and activities. What began as a quiet escape quickly became something much more meaningful.
Within months of purchasing their property, the Smiths established a commercial cow/calf operation, focusing on raising black baldy calves. In 2018, they made the decision to relocate full-time to Soper, embracing rural life and deeper community involvement. While Chris continued his work in the technology industry, the couple expanded their agricultural vision.
A search for high-quality, economically priced Hereford bulls revealed what they believed to be an underserved market. In 2020, they transitioned their operation to focus on raising registered Hereford bulls. Their commitment to quality genetics, integrity in business, and long-term relationships with cattle producers quickly set them apart. In 2022, registered Charolais cattle were added to the program to meet growing demand, further strengthening their operation and regional impact.
After three decades in corporate financial planning and business operations for Fortune 100 companies, Chris felt called to invest even more directly in the local agricultural community. When the opportunity arose to purchase the livestock auction facility in Hugo, the Smiths saw not just a business opportunity, but a chance to serve. In October 2023, they purchased the facility and rebranded it as Three Creek Livestock Auction.
Under their leadership, Three Creek Livestock Auction has focused on growth, modernization, and community partnership. The Smiths have made it a priority to give back, supporting local youth and agricultural programs including FFA and 4-H, as well as various other community initiatives. Their goal has never been simply to operate a successful business, but to strengthen the agricultural foundation of the region and invest in the next generation.
In the summer of 2025, another idea was born — adding a café to the auction barn. What started as a simple way to better serve customers and staff quickly developed into something more. Opening in late 2025 on Fridays only, the café rapidly built its own identity and loyal following. It now serves lunch and dinner six days a week, with breakfast service coming soon. More than just a place to eat, the café has become a gathering space — where ranchers, families, and neighbors connect over good food and shared values.
At the heart of Chris and Heather’s journey is a shared belief in hard work, stewardship, faith, and community. Whether raising quality livestock, mentoring young agricultural leaders, or creating spaces where neighbors feel welcome, they remain committed to serving southeastern Oklahoma with integrity and purpose.
Chris and Heather are dedicated community leaders whose service reflects a deep commitment to faith, youth, and engagement. As active members of the Hugo Lions Club, Heather serves as Secretary and supports the club’s many outreach initiatives. Since joining, Heather has generously given her time and creativity to design and build floats for the Hugo Annual Christmas Parade, bringing joy and community spirit to the holiday season.
For their efforts in the community, Chris and Heather were awarded the 2025 Entrepreneur of the Award through the Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce. At the 99th Annual Banquet, the award pictured to the right was received.
What began as a weekend escape has become a life devoted to building something lasting — for their family, for their customers, and for the community they are proud to call home.
